The theme of Folk Alliance International's 2019 conference was "The Spirit of Creativity." Kansas City-based illustrator Sarah Walsh created an illustration to fit this theme, and as FAI's in-house graphic designer, I expanded her artwork into branding for the international event. The conference, which is the world's largest gathering of the folk music industry and community, draws 2,900 artists and industry members each year.
An overview of social posts to announce registration deadlines and promote the 2019 conference.
Branding materials for a special event taking place during the conference, a Bed-In to commemorate John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 Bed-Ins. The 2019 Conference was held at the location of the original bed ins- the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal.
Below is a post from Folk Alliance International featuring merchandise I designed for the 2019 conference, including beanies (called tuques in Canada), bookmarks, enamel pins, and stickers.
I simplified and restructured the artwork to create the conference t-shirt, below left, and the volunteer t-shirt, below right. The 2019 conference hosted over 300 volunteers, and each sported the bright blue volunteer t-shirt!
I utilized elements of the artwork in a limited color palette to brand a line of #FolkLikeBalance materials. Conference attendees could mail themselves a postcard from the conference-to be received once they arrived home-reminding themselves of ways to practice self care and work-life, or in this case folk-life, balance.
